What a wonderful vacation that we had. Our days were eventful, yet leisurely and filled with great company. It started with waking up at 2:30 AM, to catch a 5:30 AM flight out of Chicago. The kids both woke up with smiles and were great travelers, anxious to see friends and family. I had printed out our tickets beforehand, and got to stand in the short line. Then Lizzie had her stroller, so we got to go to the short security line. Then we had time to get some delicious egg and bacon sandwiches from Potbellies. Bonus! As we were strolling up to our gate we heard our names being called. Oops! Too little sleep had me thinking that we had to be at the gate at 5:35, but that was the take-off time. Stevie heard our name and started walking briskly past saying "We don't have time for that!". Everyone was really nice about it and Stevie even got to sit in the cockpit when we got to Boston!
By the time got our rental....a very nice upgrade (a picture will come later, I'm sure).... and started on the road to the Cape, the kids were exhausted
But as tired as they were, they didn't nap for very long. Stevie only fell asleep for about 20 minutes! We were on our way, passing some neat things. In my head I thought to myself "I wish Stevie were awake to see these things". Well, we took a wrong turn, Stevie woke up and got to see all those things! It added another 30+ minutes to the trip and he wasn't as mesmerized as I was, but it was a nice ride.
The first stop was to get lunch at the Raw Bar in New Seabury. I needed to share a lobster roll with Steve. That's a lot of lobster right? That's not even all of it, half of it is on my plate. I ate it without the bread and it was still filling and delicious. Of course, one of the top things on our East Coast agenda, was to enjoy delicious seafood while we could.
Lizzie liked the stuffed quahogs
And Stevie like the crabcakes.
After lunch, we headed to Uncle Pete's house to hang out. Aunt Becky made delicious spaghetti and meatballs, then we went out for ice cream at the Polar Cave.
Lizzie wanted purple ice cream, so she got blueberry chocolate chip
And Stevie got a sundae....which was polished off by Daddy
Our first day was a great start to our vacation. Stevie and Lizzie had fun at the house with Derren, Kayden and Romeo. And Lizzie loved giving hugs to Uncle Peter.
